Today the federal appeals court overturned DC's handgun ban. The court rejected the city's stance that the amendment only applied to militias.
the judges stated, within the 2-1 decision, that the activities protected by the amendment ""are not limited to militia service, nor is an individual's enjoyment of the right contingent upon his or her continued intermittent enrollment in the militia." the judge that dissented said that the constitution did not apply to DC since it is not a state (there's a really scary thought there).
